The waning moon is the lunar phase during which the illuminated portion of the moon visible from Earth gradually decreases in size as it transitions from the Full Moon to the New Moon. This shift occurs as the moon continues its orbit around the Earth, with the sunlight gradually diminishing its illumination.

The waning moon is characterized by a decreasing crescent shape that grows thinner and less bright each night until it eventually becomes the New Moon, when it is not visible at all.

Spiritually, the waning moon is often associated with release, letting go, and introspection. It symbolizes the closing of a cycle, much like the autumn season, and is considered a time for shedding what no longer serves us and making space for new beginnings. Many spiritual practices involve rituals, meditation, or journaling during this phase to release negative energy, break unhealthy habits, and clear the mind. It's a favorable time for self-reflection, forgiveness, and decluttering one's life, both physically and emotionally.
